 Tips For Windows

Experience

Hardware Experience

I first worked with a computer in 1968. This was not a modern computer, it booted using a perforated paper tape reader. Since that time, I have used 8 bit, 16 bit, , 32 bit and 64 bit machines. I have built i486, i586, i686 and i786 machines. I am a COMPTia A+ Computer Technician, and have a BBA with a concentration in Computer Based Information Systems.

Software Experience

I have used most major Office Suites that run on PCs. I most often use OpenOffice, StarOffice, and WordPerfectOffice.

I am familiar with and very skilled with building business presentations. I have used PowerPoint, Impress (OOo and thus StarOffice component, VERY NICE), and Corel's presentation makers.

I have a very good familiarity with quite a few graphics and digital photography software products also, and most often use Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Corel Draw Suite 11, 12 and 13 (and sometimes The GIMP) for this kind of work.

I understand how to implement business accounting and time management into a PC business system. For accounting purposes, I use Intuit and Peachtree Products, and with Peachtree Accounting Complete I use Crystal Reports for Peachtree for data mining and report and form customizing purposes also. For Time management I have used several software packages over the years, and am currently stretching AnyTime Deluxe to its limits and am about to get reacquainted with ACT!

Operating Systems Experience

I have used the following Operating Systems:

  • DOS, both PC-DOS and MS-DOS. All versions from Version 3.0 of MS-DOS upward, and PC-DOS 3.2 and upwards through 7.0. Also some Caldera DOS versions, and other older DOS versions;

  • Windows starting with Windows 3.0, ending with Windows 7 so far, and every version for workstations or desktops between those versions as well;

  • Linux Mandrake, RedHat Linux, Fedora Linux, SuSE Linux, Gentoo, each in several releases. Also Knoppix and other live Linux CDs;

  • Xenix, and Unix Systems 3, 4, and 5;

  • FreeBSD 4.8, 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2+ are representative versions of an O\S I am exploring and deliberately learning in depth, I have installed all these versions of FreeBSD.

I know Windows and Mandrake and RedHat and SuSE Linux best out of all those.

Other IT Experience

I also understand the ins and outs of digital photography, and use a Camedia 4000 Zoom, and am familiar with several kinds of graphics and digital photography editing and morphing and web-tuning software to put pictures into forms that can be emplaced in web sites, as well as having a very high-quality digital photo capable printer and scanner available.
